Photos too big error & word spacing questions
1. If your pdf shows no space between words, it is typically a by-product of pasting the text from another source. You will need to add the spaces, it will not auto correct. If you have multiple occurrences of this in the same entry, it can be resolved easily if you are using Firefox for your web browser. Firefox has a pop-up window that appears when you paste text. Copy the text from your section. Then delete it and paste it in again. When you paste it into the Firefox pop-up box it will automatically fix all of those spacing issues. Be sure to save your entry after you paste it in.
2. The Warning sign on photos means the resolution is very low. This will result in blurry or grainy photos. To resolve this you need to either rescan your original photo at a higher resolution (300 dpi), or you can use the resizing squares to make the photo smaller. This compresses the photo so that the resolution is higher.

Accidental Deletion - Help
Marjean,
Any section that has been dragged to the trash, can be restored. Click on the Trash Can. You will see a list of sections that have been removed. Click “Restore” next to the one you want back. That’s it. It’ll go back to your book.

Placement of photos
I’m sorry you’re having trouble with photos. When you initially place a photo on a text page it will appear over the text until you click the “Retypeset” button. This really helps you save time because you can place numerous photos before having to retypeset.
To place two photos side by side, you need to place the first one. Then hold down the control key on your keyboard and place the second photo on top the the first. This tells the program you want two photos. If you do not hold down the control key then you will simply replace the existing photo with the new photo. Once you’ve placed the 2nd photo, you will retypeset to move the photos side by side.
If you have any other questions there are great written instructions in our help menu in the top right corner of your screen. Or you can always call Customer Service. We’d be glad to help.

Website slow?
The website was particularly slow over the weekend. We have remedied this, and everything is working great.
We are also working on a program upgrade that will help speed things up as well. It should be launching in the next few weeks.

Blank pages in your pdf can be for various reasons. The most common is that one of the photographs was corrupted when it uploaded to us. This means it could be displayed in your book, but when the press file is created, it doesn’t come through. You can tell this because the blank page will appear larger than the other pages of the book. These can be easily remedied by uploading the photo again, and replacing it on the page.
The other cause of a blank page is that occasionally photo pages can stack on top of each other. We are trying to fix this, but at the moment if two pages stack, the one with photos will show in the online view, but the blank one appears in the pdf. In this case, just call Customer Service and they can remove the doubled page for you.

When you use Flickr, you are actually accessing Flickr’s website rather than ours, so it can be hard to diagnose what could be going wrong. You will want to contact Customer Service @ 888-326-5327 and they can help.
It is not necessary to start a Flickr account to use MemoryPress. We just provide that convenience for people who already have them. I find it easier to simply upload the photos directly into MemoryPress. They seem to work more quickly when they are all stored on our site rather than having to wait for Flickr to load them.

When I submit my book, how long will it take to arrive?
Need to know your deadline for submitting your book?
Remember, we are printing and binding the highest quality book you can find. Our hardbound, library quality books are meant to stand the test of time. This exceptionally high quality takes time. Please don’t expect instant results, you will need to be patient and wait a little while to receive your book. Please make sure to give yourself enough time to meet your deadline.
Our weekly deadlines are Friday at midnight. We start printing each new batch of books and they are typically finished and ready to ship by the following Friday. We ask for 10 business days in case we have a technical or printing malfunction. This is so that we have 2 print runs before your book is needed. Delays do not happen often, but they do happen, and there is nothing worse than putting in all that effort and not receiving your book in time.
To determine your Press Deadline, you will want to determine the Friday before your deadline, then go back two weeks. That Friday at midnight will be your deadline. If you submit your file by that day, we can guarantee the book will arrive on time. (If your deadline is around a major holiday where business would be closed or shipping delayed – please contact us to confirm your submission deadline)
In a big rush, or not going to meet your deadline? You can cut the deadline closer, and only allow us one week to print, but it is not 100% guaranteed that the book will arrive in time for your event. We do offer overnight or 2-day shipping to help expedite things. Our fastest turn around would be, if you order on Friday, chose overnight shipping, and there were no delays or printing errors. In this case we could have the book back to you by the next Friday. This is NOT guaranteed, but it is possible.

my obituary starts on page 3 how do I change it
If your first chapter is starting on page 3, instead of 1, there are 2 things to check for.
1. Is there an empty chapter on page 1? Move you mouse over page one. Do you get a box that says “Click to Edit” If so, drag it to the trash can, and your next chapter will move up to page 1.
2. Do you have a photo page on page 1? If so, open “Manage Custom Pages” and drag the photo page, after chapter 1. That way your text will start on page one and be followed by your pictures.
If neither of these solves your problem please call customer service at 888-326-5327 – they would be glad to help.

Relationship Categories
Juliet,
Thank you for the great suggestions, we will definitely consider adding them directly to the list. In the mean time, we have a great feature for this occasion. Any contributor can choose the relationship “Other” and it brings up a box for them to type in their own personal relationship. I hope this will fill the need for you, while we update our list.

How to do?
Thank you for the great questions:
You may change the fonts by selecting a different layout in “Choose Layout”. If none of our templates fit your need, you may customize your own by clicking on the small ~ below the right corner of the layout image. Choose “Body Text” and select your new font. This is where you would set your paragraph indents as well.
Footnotes are exciting. We just added this feature. To add footnotes to your book you will use this format: ((#:footnote text)) Simply add it at the end of the sentence that needs the footnote. You can use numbers or letters in the # spot. Your footnotes will appear at the bottom of the page.
We do not currently have an automated feature for Drop Caps or endnotes. There is a way to do drop caps a little differently though. You could insert a photo of the letter and place it at the beginning of the paragraph to create a drop cap.

Nancy,
So sorry. That feature is temporarily unavailable. We should have it working again really soon.
Setting up albums is really easy. You can simply add the name of an album as you upload a photo, and the album will be automatically created. No need to list them all before hand.

Where did my photos go?
Great Question Nancy. There are a few things to know about photos. When you first upload them, they don’t show up immediately in the photo pane. You need to click the ‘Return to Book’ button to return to your book and refresh your browser to allow the photos to display.
Other factors that would cause the photos to not appear would be if they are in a file format other than JPG or PNG. Also, jpgs that are in CMYK instead of RGB (for those that don’t know – those are color settings) will not show up either. We are working on updating this so that photo formats of all kinds will be able to be uploaded.

How to get Pics to show up?
I realized something we haven’t stated before. Currently, you cannot add photos to any of the front matter. (Title page, Dedication, Table of Contents) Photos can only go in the actual chapters. If this is where you are trying to add photos, and it’s not working, that would be why. Give it a try in a Chapter and see how easy it is.

How to get Pics to show up?
Shirley,
I am so sorry that you are having trouble. Here are some things to check:
Are you using a supported Internet Browser? (Firefox or Internet Explorer 7) If not, the program will not display properly and could be contributing to the problem.
Here are the steps for adding a photo. Give them a try and let us know at what point things stop working for you.
Adding a Photo to a Text Page:
1. Start by turning to the page you would like to add the photo to.
2. Click the ‘Add a Photo’ button to the right of your book.
3. Click on the photo from your photo album, and drag it onto the text page. (Keep holding your mouse button down till after step 6.)
4. Grey boxes will pop up in the middle of each paragraph. Select which paragraph you would like to add the photo to, and move the picture there. (there must be a Hard Return between paragraphs in order for the photo boxes to pop up)
5. When you are selecting the correct box, a red outline will show up around it. When it does, drop your picture there.
6. NOTE: If a grey box, and red outline do not show up, your photo will not stay on the page. If you do not see this immediately, move your mouse slowly over the page, or the box. It usually appears quickly, but does take a bit longer for some people.
7. Once you’ve dropped your photo into the paragraph, you may right or left justify it. Click and hold the ‘Move’ tab at the top right of the photo. You will now be able to drag it into the box to the right or left.
8. When finished, click the orange Re-typeset button at the top of the screen. This will move your text to accommodate the photo.
If you follow these directions and are still having trouble, please call or email Customer Service. We would be happy to help in any way. 888-326-5327 or info@familylearn.com

Custom Pages overwriting text
I didn’t mean that you couldn’t place them in the middle. I simply meant to check if the text continued after the last photo page. You should be able to place photo pages in any position and the text should flow around them. If they are still not co-operating for you let me know. I’d be happy to look at it.

Line breaks
Sorry, I totally misunderstood. You don’t want the Chapter headings to break where they do. In this case, you would have to choose a shorter chapter heading. I could break the line for you, but then it would appear in two lines everywhere, ie the Table of Contents page, etc. Another option would be to change the book layout.

Custom Pages overwriting text
You obviously know your way around computers. We really appreciate the thorough testing. We are always striving to make the best product possible. Here is something to check. Could it be that the page was placed in the middle of a contribution? If you flip through the photo pages, does the text continue after them? Sometimes it is hard to determine where the chapter really ends. If this is the case, simply open ‘Manage Custom Pages’ and move the photo pages to the end of the chapter. If that’s not the issue either, then please contact Customer Service directly. We’d love to take a look at your book and solve the problem. You can email them at info@familylearn.com

This feature is already available. Click on your text to edit. In the line of icons, such as bold, italics, etc., you will see an icon that is 2 pages with a space in between. It is the fourth icon from the right. Put your cursor at the end of of your contribution, then click the Page Break button. This will force the next section to start at the top of the following page.

Large photo files, or an extremely long book, can add to the loading time. It is also affected by the speed of your internet connection, your computer, and other internet traffic. I would make sure you are using the FireFox web browser. It handles large photos the best. You can go to www.firefox.com and download it for free.
